    India’s Commanding Win in Women’s T20I Series

NEW DELHI: India continued their impressive performance in the women’s T20I series against Sri Lanka with a decisive seven-wicket victory on Tuesday. With this win, India now leads the five-match series 2-0, showcasing their strength in the format.

Shafali Verma Shines with an Unbeaten Knock

The standout player of the match was Shafali Verma, who played an explosive innings, swiftly guiding India to a comfortable win. Sri Lanka was put to bat first but struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack, managing only 128 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.

    India’s Spin Attack Dominates

India’s spinners were the key to their success, led by the experienced Sneh Rana, who was ably supported by young talents Vaishnavi Sharma and Shree Charani. Their control and strategy prevented Sri Lanka from gaining any momentum.

    Chasing Strategy and Quick Scoring

During the chase, India lost vice-captain Smriti Mandhana early for 14 runs. However, Shafali Verma appeared in full control, delivering a confident performance inspired by her recent World Cup showing. She remained unbeaten with a blistering 69 runs off just 34 balls, including 11 boundaries and a six. India wrapped up the chase in just 11.5 overs.

    Partnership and Quick Runs

Left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera was unable to contain Shafali’s assault; her skillful footwork against spin allowed her to hit cleanly over extra cover. Jemimah Rodrigues, the newly appointed captain of Delhi Capitals, joined the effort, scoring a quick 26 off 15 balls. Their partnership yielded 58 runs in just 4.3 overs, effectively sealing the match for India.

    Bowling Performances and Fielding Highlights

Sneh Rana took full advantage of her opportunity, returning remarkable bowling figures of 1 for 11 over four overs, including a rare maiden in T20 cricket. Shree Charani and Vaishnavi Sharma also contributed significantly, taking 2 for 23 and 2 for 32, respectively. India’s fielding was notably improved, resulting in three run-outs, countering a previous below-par display.

Sri Lanka’s Struggles and Captain’s Efforts

Sri Lanka’s captain, Chamari Athapaththu, made a spirited effort with a quick 31 runs, but the solid bowling by Rana kept the team in check. Following her dismissal, Sri Lanka’s batting crumbled, failing to recover from a series of quick wickets.
