Meeting of Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM)
NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the importance of medium-to-long-term preparedness and a swift decision-making process to mitigate the effects of the evolving crisis in West Asia. His remarks came during the first meeting of the informal group of ministers (IGoM), which has been established to monitor the situation in the region.
Key Attendees and Discussions
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, and petroleum and natural gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri, among others. Presentations were made by the seven empowered groups of secretaries (EGoS), outlining crucial sectoral issues and the policy measures already implemented to address the crisis.
Strategic Guidance and Coordinated Efforts
During the meeting, Rajnath Singh provided guidance to ensure continuous monitoring of the situation. He urged the EGoS to adopt a thorough preparedness strategy, maintain high-level coordination among ministers, and ensure swift decision-making. He stressed that all policy efforts should complement one another and be executed in a timely manner.
Post-Meeting Insights and Government Commitment
Following the meeting, Rajnath Singh shared updates on social media platform X, stating, “An IGoM meeting with senior ministers was held to review risks associated with energy supplies and the domestic availability of essential commodities amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.” He reaffirmed the NDA government’s commitment under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership to safeguard Indian citizens from potential impacts of the conflict.
Focus on Accurate Information Dissemination
The discussions also highlighted the necessity for an assessment of the conflict’s impact across various industries. It was mandated that all ministries and departments utilize the MIB WhatsApp Channel to share relevant information and advisories. This move aims to ensure accurate information dissemination to citizens and effectively counter misinformation and fake news regarding the ongoing situation.
