Celebrating 100 Years of RSS

During an event at the RSS headquarters in New Delhi, Mohan Bhagwat likened the organization’s growth to a tree evolving from a seed—highlighting how the RSS continues to adapt while retaining its core values. The remarks were made to commemorate the organization’s centenary, achieved in September of the previous year.

The Unchanging Essence of Evolution

“The RSS is celebrating its centenary. While the organization evolves and adopts new forms, it is often perceived as changing. However, it remains fundamentally the same,” Bhagwat explained. He elaborated on this analogy, noting, “Just as a sprout springs from a seed, the mature tree, rich with fruits and flowers, represents a different form. Yet, the essence of the tree remains the same as the original seed.”

Honoring Keshav Baliram Hedgewar

In his address, Bhagwat paid tribute to RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, honoring him as a “born patriot” who devoted his life to the service of the nation. Referring to Hedgewar, a physician, he mentioned, “The Sangh and Doctor saheb are synonymous terms.”

Hedgewar’s Resilience and Influence

Bhagwat reminisced about Hedgewar’s early life, noting the loss of his parents at a tender age. Despite this profound trauma, he expressed that Hedgewar did not allow such experiences to negatively impact his character. “In the face of such great loss, individuals often withdraw or develop negative traits. However, Hedgewar’s experience proved otherwise. His ability to withstand severe trauma while maintaining unwavering faith and a positive nature exemplifies remarkable mental fortitude and emotional resilience,” Bhagwat stated.

A Call for Psychological Resilience

The RSS chief concluded by suggesting that Hedgewar’s psychological strength could serve as a profound subject for further research and study, emphasizing the importance of mental health and resilience in personal development.
