IOA President P T Usha’s Remarks on Sports Infrastructure

Ahmedabad is on track to transform into a major sports hub, according to Dr. P T Usha, president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). She expressed her satisfaction with the Gujarat government’s initiatives to enhance sports infrastructure as India aims to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

Key Presentation by the Gujarat Government

On the eve of the IOA’s annual general meeting, Gujarat officials presented a comprehensive overview of the ongoing infrastructure developments geared towards a successful Olympic bid. Ajay Patel, senior vice president of the association, noted that the presentation highlighted the significant strides made by the state.

Growing Sports Facilities in Ahmedabad

At a press conference following the AGM, Usha praised the evolving sports facilities in Ahmedabad. She emphasized, “A lot of new infrastructure is coming up. They have done a great job in building that indoor stadium where our event took place today. Ahmedabad is on its way to become a sports hub in the future.” Her insights demonstrate the positive changes taking shape in the region.

Collaborative Efforts from State and Central Government

Patel mentioned the participation of Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghavi, and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya at the meeting. He reported that all attendees were pleased with the steps undertaken by the Gujarat government to bolster India’s Olympic aspirations.

Aspirations for the 2036 Olympics

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has publicly declared India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics, with plans for the construction of ten significant stadiums at the Sardar Patel Sports Complex in the Motera area. Shah expressed confidence that Ahmedabad will secure the hosting rights for this prestigious event.

Recent Achievements: Commonwealth Games Hosting Rights

Recently, Ahmedabad was awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, further solidifying its status as an emerging sports destination.
