“My Family Did Not Approve of You Initially”
While Archana enjoyed familial support, resistance came from Parmeet’s side. “My family did not approve of you initially because you were older than me and an actress, which was considered taboo at the time. There was tension at home, especially with my parents,” he noted.
Despite receiving marriage proposals from others, Parmeet remained steadfast. “I clearly said that I wanted to marry the person I loved and no one else,” he asserted.
The Terrace Conversation That Changed Everything
Recalling a pivotal moment, Parmeet shared how a late-night conversation led to their decision to marry. “While standing on the terrace, I asked if you wanted to start over with someone else. You said no, and that’s when I suggested we get married. You agreed, and I realized if we truly wanted this, it had to happen immediately.”
A Midnight Drive Straight Out of a Bollywood Film
The couple’s subsequent adventure felt like something straight from a movie script. “We got into the car and first headed to a temple near Amitabh Bachchan’s old house, but found no priest. We then went to an Arya Samaj temple, spoke to the priest, and expressed our desire to marry right away,” Parmeet revealed. They ultimately tied the knot on Archana’s terrace the next morning.
“Once We Were Sure, We Didn’t Want to Wait”
Reflecting on their impulsive decision, Archana noted that opposition from Parmeet’s parents played a significant role. “If there hadn’t been disapproval, we might have taken longer. But once we were sure about each other, we didn’t want to wait,” she explained.
For context, Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi married in 1992 after dating for nearly eight years. Archana is seven years older than Parmeet, and they are proud parents to two sons, Ayushmaan Sethi and Aaryamann Sethi.
