A new direct air link is set to shorten the distance between Gujarat and the UAE. Low-cost carrier SpiceJet has announced the launch of non-stop flights between Ahmedabad and Sharjah. This initiative aims to meet the increasing demand from business travelers, tourists, and the Indian expatriate community.
A New Direct Connection Between Gujarat and the UAE
The Ahmedabad–Sharjah service will commence on February 5, 2026. This marks Sharjah as SpiceJet’s second destination in the United Arab Emirates, following Dubai. The route is designed to enhance air connectivity between India and the Gulf, particularly for passengers with professional, trade, and family ties between Gujarat and the UAE. Ahmedabad, as a major commercial and cultural center, has longstanding links to the Gulf region. SpiceJet anticipates that this new service will greatly benefit frequent flyers, small business owners, and families traveling between the two regions.
Flight Schedule, Frequency, and Fares
According to the airline, the service will operate five days a week, with flights not available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Flights from Ahmedabad will depart at 8:20 PM and arrive in Sharjah at 10:20 PM. The return service will leave Sharjah at 11:20 PM, landing in Ahmedabad at 3:30 AM the following day. Current return fares start from around Dh900, subject to availability and applicable taxes and surcharges, as outlined on SpiceJet’s website.
The Strategic Importance of Sharjah in Regional Connectivity
“Sharjah’s position as a key regional hub makes it an important addition to our network,” said Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet. This launch responds to the growing demand for travel between India and the UAE, as the airline focuses on expanding connectivity to markets with sustained passenger demand. Sharjah already boasts extensive air links with India, with Sharjah International Airport managing around 25 daily flights to various Indian cities, primarily served by Air Arabia, along with carriers like Air India Express. Key routes include Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Surat.
