Ayodhya Administration Imposes Non-Vegetarian Food Delivery Ban

AYODHYA: The Ayodhya administration has officially banned the delivery of non-vegetarian food within a 15-kilometre radius of the iconic Ram temple. This decision comes in response to numerous complaints regarding food delivery services supplying non-veg cuisine in the area designated under the ‘paanch kosi parikrama’.

Warnings Issued to Hotels and Homestays

A warning has also been issued to various hotels and homestays in Ayodhya that have reportedly been serving non-vegetarian food and alcoholic beverages. This move aims to maintain the sanctity of the religious site and comply with local regulations.

Details on the Ban from the Food Commissioner

Ayodhya’s Assistant Food Commissioner, Manik Chandra Singh, noted, “We received complaints that despite an existing ban, non-vegetarian food continues to be served to tourists through online orders. As a result, a complete ban on online non-vegetarian deliveries has now been enforced.”

Compliance Monitoring by the Administration

Singh further added that all hotels, shopkeepers, and delivery companies have been informed of the ban, and the administration will conduct ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance with the regulations.

Liquor Shops Still Operative on Ram Path

Interestingly, over two dozen licensed liquor shops still operate along the Ram Path, despite a motion passed by the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation (AMC) last May aiming to ban the sale of alcohol and meat on this 14-kilometre stretch.

Efforts to Enforce Food and Alcohol Regulations

According to an AMC official, efforts have been made to eliminate meat shops from Ram Path, including those in Faizabad city. However, removing the liquor shops requires additional permissions from the district administration, complicating the enforcement of these regulations.
