Financial Assistance for Women Heads of Households
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, focusing on financial aid for women. Union Minister JP Nadda announced that the party promises monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to all women heads of households, alongside a one-time payment of Rs 10,000 to each household.
Additional Promises for Women Empowerment
The manifesto includes several initiatives aimed at economic empowerment, such as free LPG cylinders provided annually and a support of Rs 25,000 for eligible women to purchase e-scooters. Moreover, the BJP is set to offer interest-free loans of up to Rs 50 lakh for women-led cooperatives, self-help groups, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Women Safety Measures
In terms of safety, the party proposed significant reforms. Measures include zero FIR reporting, victim-witness protection, and the establishment of special fast-track courts for heinous crimes, particularly sexual offenses. Additionally, the party aims for 100% blind spot-free CCTV coverage in buses, schools, and universities, along with improved utilization of the Nirbhaya fund.
Support for Farmers
For the agricultural sector, the BJP plans to enhance the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi benefits by adding a Rs 3,000 top-up to the existing Rs 6,000 annual support.
Election Dates and Key Contests
Tamil Nadu will conduct elections on April 23, with vote counting scheduled for May 4. The main contest is anticipated between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes the Indian National Congress, DMDK, and VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance led by the AIADMK, partnering with the BJP and PMK.
