Car Nicobar, which experienced the devastating impact of the 2004 tsunami, now boasts modernized infrastructure. The upgrades are designed to enhance the IAF’s rapid-response capabilities and solidify India’s military posture in the eastern Indian Ocean.

Upon his arrival at Car Nicobar around 11:30 AM, General Chauhan was welcomed by Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, commander-in-chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), along with several senior officials.

The significant changes made to the base include:

• Expansion of the apron areas for improved aircraft movement.
• Enhanced capabilities for conducting long-range firing exercises swiftly.

In the wake of this disaster, India re-evaluated its strategic posture in the Indo-Pacific region. Car Nicobar has since transformed from a site of grief into a resilient military hub, now home to:
