Overview of Self-Enumeration in Census 2027

NEW DELHI: As of now, approximately 12 lakh households across 11 states and Union territories have participated in the self-enumeration phase of the Census 2027. Notably, more than half of these households completed the self-enumeration process in the past 4-5 days.

Conclusion of Self-Enumeration Window

The 15-day self-enumeration window concluded on Wednesday for regions including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa, Karnataka, Odisha, NDMC and cantonment areas of Delhi NCR, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Lakshadweep. Following this, the census field operations, which involve house-to-house visits by enumerators, will commence in the eight states and Union Territories starting Thursday.

Duration of Field Operations

The field operations are set to last one month, concluding on May 15. The 12 lakh households that have completed the self-enumeration so far represent only a small fraction of the total population in these eight states. Therefore, the enumerator visits will play a crucial role in capturing comprehensive and accurate data regarding housing conditions and household amenities.

Extension of Self-Enumeration in Various Regions

The self-enumeration window remains open until April 19 in Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, and until April 24 in Uttarakhand. Additionally, it will begin on Monday in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, and on Friday in Bihar.

First-Time Introduction of Self-Enumeration

The self-enumeration (SE) facility is being offered for the first time in Census 2027, which is also India’s first digital census. By April 10, the Census 2027 handle reported 5.7 lakh households had completed self-enumeration, highlighting that nearly 6.3 lakh households enrolled between April 11 and 15.

Keeping Your Self-Ennumeration ID Ready

Residents who have finished the self-enumeration process are advised to keep their Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) at hand and share it with the enumerator during their field visit to complete the HLO process.

Confidentiality of Collected Data

All data collected under the Census Act, 1948 remains strictly confidential and is solely utilized for statistical purposes and development planning.

Digital Tools in Census 2027

Census 2027 is notable for being conducted with digital tools for the first time while maintaining the traditional door-to-door enumeration framework. During field visits, enumerators will employ a dedicated mobile application to collect data digitally, enhancing accuracy and expediting processing.
