    GGSIPU Convocation 2023: A Celebration of Academic Excellence

    Delhi CM Rekha Gupta’s Inspiring Address

    At the 18th convocation of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the pivotal role of today’s graduates in propelling the nation towards a brighter future. Held at the university’s East Delhi campus in Surajmal Vihar, the event witnessed the conferral of a staggering 26,649 degrees, including 124 PhDs, 11 MPhils, and a significant number of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

    A Record Number of Degrees Awarded

    Among the degrees awarded, notable figures included 477 MBBS and 709 MD/MS and DM/MCh degrees. University officials highlighted that an impressive 70% of the PhD recipients were women, showcasing the empowerment of female scholars in higher education. Additionally, the convocation celebrated excellence by presenting 76 gold medals and six memorial awards to outstanding students.

    LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu’s Vision for the Future

    Delhi Lieutenant Governor and GGSIPU Chancellor, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, reflected on the significance of a convocation day as a transition from academic pursuit to civic responsibility. He expressed the importance of adaptability in a world increasingly influenced by Artificial Intelligence and urged graduates to think beyond traditional learning.

    Emphasizing Logical Thinking

    "Logical thinking is the real strength in the age of AI and innovation," Sandhu stated, urging students to embrace creativity and innovation. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a "Viksit Bharat @2047," calling for skilled problem-solvers to address challenges in crucial domains like urban development and public health.

    Commitment to Innovation at GGSIPU

    GGSIPU Vice-Chancellor Mahesh Verma reinforced the university’s commitment to fostering research and innovation as they prepare students to navigate an evolving landscape. He encouraged graduates to embrace their responsibilities with integrity and purpose.

    The Role of Education in Society

    CM Rekha Gupta highlighted the importance of education not only for personal advancement but also for the collective betterment of society. She acknowledged the university’s contributions to emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics, data science, and design innovation.

    Support for Startups and Future Innovators

    Gupta praised the Atal Incubation Centre at GGSIPU, which has helped over 170 startups, transitioning young people from job seekers to job creators. This focus on entrepreneurship aligns with the Delhi government’s broader educational strategy.

    Investment in Education

    Addressing the future of education, Gupta announced that the education budget has significantly increased to Rs 19,326 crore this year. The chief minister reiterated the commitment to not only enhance schooling but to also provide world-class facilities in higher education, adding that over 2,200 students are currently benefitting from free coaching for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and CLAT.
