Consumer Court Orders Salman Khan’s Appearance in Pan Masala Ad Case

A consumer court in Kota, Rajasthan, has mandated Bollywood actor Salman Khan to appear in person regarding allegations of a misleading pan masala advertisement. The court has also ordered a forensic examination of the signature on the power of attorney submitted on his behalf. The next hearing is scheduled for January 20.

    Complaint over ‘Misleading’ Advertisement

The complaint was filed on October 15 by advocate Indra Mohan Singh Honey, who is also a BJP leader. Singh claims that Rajshree Pan Masala and Salman Khan have misled consumers by advertising their product as “saffron-infused cardamom" and saffron-infused pan masala.

Singh highlights that saffron is priced around Rs 4 lakh per kilogram, making its inclusion in a Rs 5 pan masala pouch highly implausible. He argues that such misleading advertisements not only deceive the public but also fuel pan masala consumption, particularly among youth, exposing them to serious health risks like cancer.

    Objection to Salman Khan’s Signature

In a previous hearing on December 9, objections were raised regarding Salman Khan’s signature on the power of attorney and the related court documents. The petitioner has called for an investigation, citing discrepancies in the signatures.

In response to these claims, the consumer court has instructed a forensic science laboratory (FSL) examination of the signature. Additionally, the court has required Salman Khan to appear personally at the next hearing on January 20. Advocate R.C. Choubey, who notarized the power of attorney and the reply, is also expected to be present.

    Allegation of Forged Documents

Singh has alleged that the power of attorney submitted on Khan’s behalf lacks his signature. He noted differences between this signature and those recorded by Khan in Jodhpur jail and during previous court appearances.

Speaking to PTI, Singh confirmed, “We objected to Khan’s signature and demanded an FSL examination of it, as well as his personal presence. The court accepted our objection.” He plans to file a separate case alleging forgery against the actor and others involved, asserting that fraudulent documents were presented in court.

In summary, this ongoing case raises significant concerns regarding the authenticity of documents and the potential health implications of misleading advertisements, making it a matter of public interest.
