CSK Lodges Official Complaint Against RCB Over Controversial ‘Dosa Idli’ Song

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has filed a formal complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This incident arose from alleged misconduct during their IPL 2026 match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5.

    Allegations of Inappropriate In-Stadium Entertainment

The complaint from CSK cites multiple concerns, including inappropriate entertainment and harassment of their supporters. This adds another layer to the already intense rivalry between the two franchises.

The Controversial Song and its Implications

As reported by Indian Express, the core of the complaint pertains to a song played during the match, which included phrases such as "dosa, idli, sambar, chutney." CSK believes this song stereotype their Tamil Nadu identity. The incident occurs against the backdrop of RCB’s recent dominance, as they have now secured four consecutive victories over CSK, further inflaming tensions between the teams and their fanbases.

    Statements from CSK Management

CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan commented, "The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering this, we have written to the BCCI to investigate."

The song’s origins can be traced back to musician Gana Appu and has become a point of contention in CSK-RCB encounters. It even made an appearance last year when RCB posted a video of wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma performing it, which attracted significant backlash from CSK supporters.

    Previous Incidents and Management Intervention

During a previous match at Chepauk, CSK’s DJ retaliated by playing the same track when Jitesh was dismissed. Following that event, CSK management had issued strict guidelines to avoid remarks targeting opposing players or fans. "Since then, there has been no repeat," said Kasi Viswanathan. "The DJ is not supposed to make comments on opposition players, and we are fortunate to have a fanbase that supports us in great numbers."

Renewed Concerns from CSK After April 5 Match

Sadly, CSK’s concerns resurfaced after the April 5 match, where similar boundaries were allegedly crossed. Besides the controversial song, CSK objected to inappropriate comments made by the stadium DJ following the dismissal of their players. They stressed that the DJ’s role should be that of enhancing the match atmosphere, rather than ridiculing the opposition.

Match Summary: RCB vs CSK (April 5, 2026)

On the field, RCB showcased a dominant performance, defeating CSK by 43 runs in a high-scoring encounter. Batting first, RCB amassed a daunting 250 runs for 3 wickets, featuring a stunning unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls from Tim David. Alongside captain Rajat Patidar, the duo contributed significantly, adding 99 runs in the death overs to dismantle CSK’s bowling unit.

Earlier, contributions from Devdutt Padikkal (50) and Phil Salt (46) set a solid foundation, while RCB stormed home with 97 runs in the final five overs.

In reply, CSK struggled in their chase, losing critical wickets early in the powerplay. Despite valiant efforts from Sarfaraz Khan (50), Prashant Veer (43), and Jamie Overton (37), they were bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar led RCB’s disciplined bowling attack with three wickets, successfully ensuring the target remained elusive for CSK.

    Conclusion

The clash between CSK and RCB continues to heighten, not just on the field but off it as well. The allegations and complaints raise important questions about sportsmanship and the role of entertainment in sports events. As the rivalry unfolds, fans can expect more drama in the IPL 2026 season.
