Actor Dacre Montgomery reflects on his complex role as a killer in the new horror movie Faces of Death, highlighting how his personal experiences with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) shaped his portrayal of the character.
Montgomery’s Connection with Arthur
In a recent interview, Montgomery revealed that the most relatable aspect of his character, Arthur, is the obsessive-compulsive tendencies he shares with him. “Definitely what was relatable to me about Arthur was just, honestly, the OCD,” he stated. “That’s just definitely my thing. I live with that and I manage it.”
Attention to Detail as a Shared Trait
The Australian actor elaborated on how he channeled his meticulous nature into the role. “There was a lot of that kind of fastidiousness and attention to detail that I put into all characters that I play, but he’s so methodical,” he explained. Montgomery noted the character’s careful planning and execution, stating, “From the time that you see him in the movie, he’s halfway to enacting his plan, and he’s put a lot of thought into that.” While he clarified that he does not relate to Arthur’s murderous intentions, he found common ground in their shared attention to detail.
Director Daniel Goldhaber’s Perspective
Faces of Death director Daniel Goldhaber emphasized the importance of Montgomery’s real-life connection to the character. According to Goldhaber, if someone else had played Arthur, the character’s presentation would have been vastly different. “I met with a handful of people for this movie,” Goldhaber mentioned. “As soon as I met with Dacre, I felt like it kind of just had to be him because everybody else approached this character like somebody they’d seen in the media.”
A Unique Take on a Horror Icon
Goldhaber appreciated Montgomery’s personal investment in the role, adding, “Dacre showed up and it was like, ‘Here’s all the ways that I relate to Arthur personally.’” This unique approach not only shaped Arthur’s character but also contributed significantly to the film’s depth.
Upcoming Release
Faces of Death, which also stars notable actors like Charli XCX, Josie Totah, Aaron Holliday, and Jermaine Fowler, is set to release on April 10. Montgomery’s compelling portrayal of Arthur promises to offer audiences a layered perspective on fear and obsession.
In summary, Dacre Montgomery’s insights into his experience with OCD lend an authentic dimension to his portrayal of Arthur in Faces of Death, making it a compelling watch for horror enthusiasts.
