Lal Kothi: Rehman Dakait’s On-Screen Home
Lal Kothi, a 19th-century haveli, quietly stands in the heart of Punjab’s Amritsar. Built around 1876, this historical structure showcases a rich architectural tapestry that marries European and colonial influences with traditional Indian design. Renowned historian Peter Bance notes the presence of Italian and French architectural styles, especially evident in its interior layout and finishes.
Inside, the haveli boasts features such as marble floors, ornate wooden staircases, and open fireplaces. Interestingly, it even holds remnants of marble water fountains that, although no longer functional, speak to its grand past.
A Popular Shoot Location
Lal Kothi is no stranger to the film industry; it has served as a filming location for various productions over the years. Caretaker Deepak Yadav shared with TrueScoop that prominent films, including Sadiyaan featuring Rishi Kapoor and Rekha, have utilized this picturesque haveli. The property, which has changed ownership multiple times, is currently maintained by an ashram and managed by a trust.
