Dubai’s Comprehensive New Year’s Eve Transport Plan for 2026

As Dubai gears up for one of the busiest New Year’s Eve celebrations worldwide, authorities are implementing a strategic transport and traffic management plan. This initiative aims to facilitate millions of journeys into and out of key event zones, ensuring a smooth transition into 2026.

Extended Metro Operations and Public Transport Surge

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the Dubai Metro Red and Green Lines, along with the Dubai Tram, will operate continuously for 43 hours over the New Year period. Services will begin at 5 AM on December 31, 2025, and continue until 11:59 PM on January 1, 2026. The Dubai Tram will operate from 6 AM on December 31 to 1 AM on January 2.

This extended schedule aims to alleviate congestion around Downtown Dubai and major celebration venues, with extra services at high-traffic stations like Emirates Towers, Financial Centre, Business Bay, and Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall.

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, emphasized the authority’s readiness to manage traffic effectively during the celebrations. Public transport usage has consistently increased over the years; over 2.5 million passengers utilized public transport during the 2025 celebrations, a rise from 2.29 million in 2024.

To meet demand, the RTA will deploy more than 14,000 taxis, 18,000 limousine and luxury vehicles, and over 1,300 buses throughout the city.

Phased Road Closures and Traffic Management

Phased road closures around major event zones will commence at 4 PM on New Year’s Eve, progressively expanding until 11 PM to manage congestion and enhance public safety. Affected routes include Al Asayel Street, Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Burj Khalifa Street, and Sheikh Zayed Road.

Traffic signals in these areas will be centrally controlled, with smart variable message signs supplying real-time updates on closures and alternative routes. Authorities encourage motorists to plan ahead, avoid Downtown Dubai when possible, and utilize public transport.

Enhanced pedestrian safety measures will be implemented, with crowd movement closely monitored at key access points to ensure safety during the festivities.

Unified Control, Staffing, and Parking Capacity

Transport and security operations will be coordinated from a Unified Control Centre, integrating teams from the RTA, Dubai Police, Civil Defence, and Dubai Ambulance Services. Advanced systems, including the iTraffic platform and big data analytics, will help predict traffic volumes and facilitate quick decision-making as crowds increase across the city.

Over 5,500 RTA employees will be deployed on the ground, supported by ten control centres and 26 traffic diversion vehicles in strategic locations. Parking capacity around Downtown Dubai has been increased significantly, offering approximately 20,000 parking spaces in the Burj Khalifa area and an additional 8,000 spaces at metro stations. Overflow parking will be available at Al Wasl Club and Al Kifaf.

Authorities reiterate the importance of following official instructions, using public transport where feasible, and allowing extra travel time as the city prepares for the New Year under one of its most elaborate operational plans to date.
