Recent Developments in West Bengal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee voiced serious allegations against the central government on Thursday, accusing it of engaging in political vendetta. Her remarks come in light of recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on the residences of IT chiefs from various political parties.
Allegations of Misuse of Central Agencies
Banerjee criticized the center for allegedly misusing central agencies ahead of elections. She specifically questioned the role of the ED and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asserting that the agency was seizing party documents and data under the guise of investigations.
"Is it the duty of the ED and Amit Shah to collect the party’s hard disk and candidate list?" Banerjee challenged, referring to the intense scrutiny her party is facing.
Concerns Over Voter Deletion
In her remarks, Banerjee highlighted a concerning issue regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal. She alleged that voter names are being deleted, suggesting a link to the election process.
"On one side, they are deleting the names of all the voters… Because of the elections, they are collecting all the information about my party," she stated, indicating her alarm over the situation.
Impact of the ED’s Actions
These allegations arise shortly after the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at the homes of IT chiefs from various political parties, including TMC’s IPAC chief Prateek Jain. Banerjee’s accusations underline the mounting tensions as the political landscape heats up ahead of elections in West Bengal.
