    NEW DELHI: After an impressive 14-year career, Karnataka all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Monday at the age of 37. Renowned for his powerful hitting and reliable off-spin bowling, Gowtham leaves an indelible mark on Indian cricket.

    Early Career Highlights

    Gowtham made his first-class debut for Karnataka during the 2012 Ranji Trophy season against Uttar Pradesh. From the onset, he showcased his talent by taking the wickets of notable players like Suresh Raina and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in his very first match.

    Breakthrough Season

    The 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season marked a pivotal moment in Gowtham’s career. He took 27 wickets in just eight matches, establishing himself as a formidable all-rounder. In the subsequent season, he further honed his batting skills, scoring his first first-class century against Assam in Mysuru.

    Impressive Domestic Record

    Over the years, Gowtham built an impressive domestic record, finishing his career with over 320 wickets in first-class and List A cricket. His contributions with the bat were equally noteworthy, making him a key player within Karnataka cricket until 2023.

    International Experience

    His consistent performances earned him multiple selections for India A, where he competed against teams such as New Zealand A, West Indies A, Australia A, and the England Lions. In 2021, Gowtham also received a call-up to the senior Indian team for the Sri Lanka tour, where he played one T20 International in Colombo and claimed a wicket.

    IPL Journey

    In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gowtham played for several franchises, including Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants. His IPL career peaked in 2021 when Chennai Super Kings acquired him for a whopping Rs 9.25 crore. Over his IPL tenure, he earned more than Rs 35 crore and delivered several match-winning performances.

    Memorable Performances

    One of Gowtham’s most unforgettable performances came during the 2019 Karnataka Premier League while playing for Bellary Tuskers. He scored an astonishing 134 runs off just 56 balls, including 13 sixes. Furthermore, he delivered a remarkable bowling performance, taking eight wickets for only 15 runs in four overs, a feat that solidified his legacy as one of the finest all-rounders in Indian T20 cricket.
