Hema Malini Reflects on Life After Dharmendra’s Passing

A Heartfelt Tribute to 57 Years Together

In a recent candid interview, actress Hema Malini opened up about her life following the death of veteran actor Dharmendra, who passed away nearly six weeks ago. Their enduring bond of 57 years was characterized by unwavering support and love, even amidst busy schedules. Hema reminisced about Dharmendra’s thoughtful gestures, like calling her when he was away and making the journey from their Lonavala farm to be with her and their daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

Navigating Grief and Strength

In her interview with senior journalist Subhash K. Jha for The Indian Express, Hema expressed the depth of her sorrow: “I was very deeply in sorrow, still that is there. But I’m trying to move on, because it’s too much for me to handle. I have to keep going.” Despite her grief, she emphasized her resilience, acknowledging the challenges she faces daily.

Memories of Dharmendra’s Last Days

Hema shared poignant details about Dharmendra’s final days, noting that he spent his last moments at home after multiple hospital visits. Reflecting on this time, she said, “I felt he would be around for one or two more years.” Unfortunately, despite their hopes, his health deteriorated. Hema remembered him fondly: “He had the best of everything. Such a sweet person he was, and I feel proud that so many people loved him.”

Addressing Speculations About Family Relationships

When discussing her relationship with Dharmendra’s sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol, Hema dismissed rumors of discord. She stated, “It has always been very nice and cordial. Even today, it is very nice. I don’t know why people think otherwise. My personal life is just that—personal.” Hema highlighted the familial support they share, including Sunny’s plans for a museum dedicated to Dharmendra’s legacy.

Coping with Loss and Looking Ahead

Hema admitted the struggle of imagining life without Dharmendra, saying, “I miss him every minute.” Her memories included the little things, like his habit of checking in on her, which she cherished deeply. As she navigates this profound loss, she focuses on the love they shared and the memories that will always remain.

The late Dharmendra was last seen in the film Ikkis, alongside Agastya Nanda, Jaideep Ahawat, and the late Asrani.
