P Chidambaram Critiques Vijay’s Political Approach

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram took a jab at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay during a roadshow in Sivaganga, stating, “governance offers no retakes.” This remark highlighted Chidambaram’s view on the challenges of political leadership compared to acting.

    The Challenges of Governance

Chidambaram emphasized, “Governance is not easy. I have governed for about 20 years, and I can say it is not a simple task. In governance, there are no retakes.” He referred to his extensive political experience, having served in key positions such as home and finance minister in various Congress-led governments.

Acting vs. Governance: A Clear Distinction

The senior Congress member drew a distinct line between the film industry and governance, saying, “In cinema, if a scene doesn’t come out well, the director can ask for another take. But in administration, that’s not possible. Once a decision is made, there is no retake. The decision stands as it is.”

    Vijay’s TVK and Upcoming Elections

Vijay, a superstar in Tamil cinema, launched TVK in February 2024. The party is gearing up to contest all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, with assembly elections scheduled for April 23 and counting on May 4.

Criticizing Vijay’s Absence at a Rally

Chidambaram also criticized Vijay for missing his scheduled speech at an election rally in Karaikudi, stating, “He left without even speaking. How is that acceptable? Politics is about speaking, isn’t it?” He further noted that Vijay had not interacted with the press or the public. Chidambaram stated, “Look at me, I travel alone by car. Every time I come, I am ready to speak. I am always prepared for a debate if there is one.”

    Explanation for Vijay’s Delay

According to TVK sources, Vijay’s absence from the rally was due to delays caused by enormous crowds along the route from Madurai, increasing his arrival time by nearly four hours. By the time his convoy reached Karaikudi, the official timing for the event had expired, and he could only wave to the crowd before leaving.
