Hardik Pandya’s Absence from ODI Squad

NEW DELHI: Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has made headlines due to his omission from the 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, announced on Saturday. The decision has sparked discussions, especially concerning his fitness status.

    Fitness Concerns and Workload Management

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not cleared Pandya to bowl a full 10-over spell in ODIs. With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup approaching, the team’s management has opted to prioritize his fitness over immediate participation in bilateral series. The goal is to ensure the 32-year-old remains fully fit for major tournaments.

Indian ODI Squad for New Zealand Series

The selection committee has unveiled a robust squad for the three-match ODI series slated to commence on January 11 in Vadodara. Shubman Gill is set to captain the team, while notable players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are making their return to the ODI lineup. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed vice-captain, pending his fitness clearance from the BCCI COE.

    All-rounder Contributions

The team also features wicketkeepers KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, alongside all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. The bowling lineup includes Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, and Kuldeep Yadav.

    Managerial Statement on Pandya

According to an official statement, “Hardik Pandya has not been cleared by the BCCI COE to bowl 10 overs in a match, and considering the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to follow, his workload is being managed.”

    Pandya’s Performance in Domestic Cricket

Even though he is absent from the ODIs, Hardik Pandya’s batting form remains exceptional. Recently, he delivered a striking performance for Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Vidarbha. Entering the game with Baroda in a precarious position at 71 for 5, Pandya steadied the innings and later unleashed an explosive finish. In the 39th over alone, he scored 34 runs, including five sixes and a four, ultimately finishing with a remarkable 133 runs off 92 balls, featuring 11 sixes and 8 fours.

    Recent T20I Success

Previously, in India’s T20I series against South Africa, Pandya had showcased his skills with several notable performances and even achieved the milestone of 100 T20I wickets with his impactful bowling.
