Rohit Sharma to Miss Upcoming IPL Match: Injury Update

    Mumbai Indians Face Setback

In a significant blow to the Mumbai Indians, who are already reeling from three consecutive defeats, star opener and former captain Rohit Sharma is set to miss the team’s fifth match of IPL 2026 against the Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium. This news comes as a result of a recurrence of a hamstring injury, as reported by the .

    Injury Details

Rohit sustained the injury during the Mumbai Indians’ previous clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the same venue. The MI spokesperson, Naman Dhir, provided an update ahead of the pre-match press conference, stating, "The medical staff is assessing him. An official update will be given when available.” Despite the injury setback, during a training session later in the evening, Rohit was seen jogging at the Wankhede Stadium.

    New Addition to the Squad

In light of Rohit’s absence, the MI spokesperson confirmed that England allrounder Will Jacks, who has yet to make an appearance in the IPL this season, "is on his way and will join the team soon."

    Match Performance and History

Rohit picked up the hamstring injury during the second innings against RCB and retired hurt in the sixth over of the chase. The team ultimately lost the match, marking their third defeat in four games this season. He walked off the field after scoring 19 runs off 13 balls, which included two fours and a six, following an extensive on-field treatment from the team’s physio.

Teammate Sherfane Rutherford commented after the game, "I’m not entirely sure yet – perhaps it’s a bit of a hamstring issue – but I can’t say for certain."

    Rohit’s Career and Previous Injuries

Recently celebrating 15 years with the Mumbai Indians, Rohit has scored 137 runs in four matches this season, including a half-century. However, the 38-year-old has a history of hamstring injuries, having missed several games in IPL 2020 and parts of the 2016-17 season due to similar issues.

As the Mumbai Indians prepare for their next match, fans will eagerly await further updates on Rohit Sharma’s condition and the team’s performance without their captain.
