Who is Pranita Venkatesh?

Pranita Venkatesh is a member of the Indo-Fiji diaspora, having been born to Indian parents in Fiji before moving to California at just four years old. She has spent the last 15 years living in San Carlos with her husband and two children, having moved there in 2009.

Venkatesh’s professional background includes roles as a child psychologist in East Palo Alto and a buyer at Macy’s. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame de Namur University and a master’s degree in early childhood and clinical psychology. Currently, she serves as the director of Paragon Montessori preschool in San Carlos.

Her political career began when she was elected to the San Carlos City Council in 2022, benefitting from the endorsement of the San Mateo Democratic Party. Prior to this, she served on the city’s Economic Development Advisory Commission for three years.

Pranita Venkatesh’s Vision for San Carlos

In an interview with Scoot Scoop, Venkatesh outlined her priorities for San Carlos: public safety, childcare, economic stability, infrastructure, and affordable housing. Following her swearing-in ceremony, she expressed her commitment to "bridging community needs with effective municipal governance."

Commenting on her election’s significance, fijivillage.com highlighted how it reflects "the vibrant diversity in the city and shows what is possible when one aims high and steps forward to serve." The Hindu American Foundation also celebrated her election via X, congratulating Venkatesh for being a proud representation of civic leadership.
