The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to finalize the schedule for the upcoming 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to vice-president Rajeev Shukla, the board is awaiting government announcements regarding election dates in multiple states before confirming fixtures and venues.

Election Dates and IPL Scheduling

Speaking to IANS, Shukla emphasized the importance of avoiding clashes between polling days and key matches. "We are working on the IPL schedule, but we are still awaiting the government’s announcement of the election dates. Once confirmed, we can create a schedule that accommodates both the elections and the tournament," he stated.

Impacted Venues Due to Elections

Elections are anticipated across several states, including Assam, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, which will influence the choice of IPL venues. Stadiums like the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and Eden Gardens in Kolkata are specifically under scrutiny, as they are home grounds for teams like the Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Urgent Venue Confirmations Needed

Shukla mentioned that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchises have been urged to finalize their home venues promptly. "We have asked the franchises to take a final call and inform us within a week. Once we receive their decisions, we will prepare the schedule accordingly," he continued.

Recent Developments in Karnataka

Recently, the Karnataka State Cricket Association obtained conditional approval to host IPL and international matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In contrast, the Rajasthan Royals are facing uncertainty regarding the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur due to ongoing administrative issues within the Rajasthan Cricket Association.
