NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Royals’ young batting sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, made headlines on Thursday by offering cake to Romi Bhinder, the team’s long-standing manager, in celebration of his birthday. The amusing exchange between the two has since gone viral on social media.
Viral Birthday Moment Captured
A video shared by the Rajasthan Royals featured Sooryavanshi presenting a small cake to Bhinder, urging him to cut it. “Happy Birthday sir. Cake cutting karna hai,” said Sooryavanshi enthusiastically. When Bhinder responded that he had already cut the cake, the 15-year-old cheekily replied, “Vapis karna hai. Aaj hi kiya hai na sir, kal kaha. 12 baje ke baad na.”
Behind the Scenes with the Team Manager
In a light-hearted moment, Bhinder was seen scrolling through his smartphone while Sooryavanshi stood by him in the dugout during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati. According to PMOA protocols, team managers are allowed to use mobile phones but not within the dugout, marking a breach of conduct.
Sooryavanshi’s Stellar Performance in IPL
Sooryavanshi has been a standout player for the Rajasthan Royals this season. He leads the team as its highest run-getter, amassing 200 runs in five matches with an impressive average of 40.00 and a staggering strike rate of 263.16.
Rajasthan Royals’ Winning Streak Comes to an End
Unfortunately for the Rajasthan Royals, their winning run was halted in a recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Debutant bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain put on a show, claiming eight wickets between them as Sunrisers secured a convincing 53-run victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 13.
Historic Bowling Achievements
In an exciting turn of events, Nagpur-based Hinge became the first bowler in IPL history to achieve a three-wicket haul in the opening over, finishing with impressive figures of 4/34. Hussain, hailing from Gopalganj in Bihar, also shined with figures of 4/24.
Turning the Match Around
Despite a rocky start, with Rajasthan Royals reeling at 9/5, a remarkable partnership between Donovan Ferreira (69) and Ravindra Jadeja (45)—the second-highest stand for the sixth wicket or lower in IPL history—helped the team recover. However, they were ultimately bowled out for 159 in just 19 overs.
