Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan has been postponed indefinitely following a Madras High Court stay on its release until January 21. This legal setback comes as the film is believed to be Vijay’s final project before he enters active politics.
Producer Addresses Fans and the Delay
In light of the delay, KVN Productions’ founder Venkat K. Narayana issued a heartfelt statement on social media. He thanked fans for their support, noting, “To everyone who has been waiting for our film Jana Nayagan with immense love and anticipation, we extend our sincere gratitude.”
Narayana explained that the film was initially submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on December 18, 2025, and approved with changes on December 22. Despite making the necessary amendments, they are still awaiting the formal certification.
Legal Challenges and Setbacks
Days before the planned release on January 5, 2026, the production team was informed that the film would be referred to the Revising Committee due to an anonymous complaint. “With time running out and without knowing who the complainant was, we approached the honourable High Court,” Narayana explained.
After hearings on January 6 and 7, the court initially ordered the issuance of a U/A 16+ certificate. However, this decision was subsequently challenged by CBFC, resulting in an interim stay on the certification.
Apology to Stakeholders and Trust in the Judicial System
Narayana expressed his apologies to audiences, distributors, exhibitors, and all other stakeholders affected by the delay, stating, “These developments were beyond our control.” He emphasized the emotional toll on the team, who have dedicated years to the project.
Highlighting the respect that Thalapathy Vijay deserves from his fans and the industry, he concluded, “We have complete faith in the judicial process and remain hopeful that the film will reach audiences soon.”
CBFC Scrutiny Across Indian Cinema
Jana Nayagan is not the only Tamil film facing certification hurdles recently. The film Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sreeleela, also underwent a rigorous CBFC review, requiring over 20 cuts before it was finally approved for release.
