Cricket Australia Clarifies Cameron Green’s Bowling Situation

Cricket Australia has issued a clarification regarding the absence of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green from bowling duties for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the IPL 2026 season. This followed comments from KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who raised questions about Green’s unavailability after their recent match against Mumbai Indians.

    Rahane’s Comments Stir Controversy

During KKR’s opening fixture at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Rahane faced queries regarding Green’s absence. KKR, unable to defend a total of 220 runs, felt the impact of the inexperienced bowling unit. Rahane noted that the pitch conditions mirrored those of a prior T20 World Cup semifinals match, where close to 500 runs were scored.

The KKR captain pointed out the detrimental impact of not having Green available as a bowler, stating, “I think when hopefully Green starts to bowl soon, the combination will be slightly different.” He emphasized the need for balance in the team’s bowling lineup and lamented the challenges posed by injuries.

    Cricket Australia Responds

In response to Rahane’s remarks, Cricket Australia clarified that Green is currently managing a lower back injury, which prevents him from bowling. A spokesperson for Cricket Australia stated, “Cameron has a lower back injury which is being managed but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period.” They confirmed that KKR was fully informed about Green’s situation ahead of time.

    Green’s Role and Performance

Cameron Green, the most expensive acquisition in the IPL 2026 auction at INR 25.20 Cr, played as a batsman in the match, scoring 18 runs off 10 balls. However, he was not called upon to bowl as Mumbai Indians capitalized on KKR’s less experienced bowling attack.

The match witnessed a striking opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, who amassed 148 runs in just 11.1 overs. KKR’s bowlers struggled, with Vaibhav Arora conceding 52 runs in four overs, and Blessing Muzarabani leaking 34 runs in three overs. Even seasoned spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy showed vulnerabilities, collectively conceding 78 runs in seven overs.

    Conclusion

Cameron Green’s absence as a bowler has clearly posed challenges for KKR, and Cricket Australia’s clarification sheds light on the situation. As he manages his recovery, KKR will likely be eager for a swift return to full fitness to regain balance in their lineup.
