Introduction to the Campaign

On Saturday, Jammu & Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, unveiled the “Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan”, a comprehensive 100-day campaign aimed at eradicating drug-related issues within the Union Territory. Targeting Cross-Border Smuggling

In his address, Sinha strongly condemned the actions of neighboring Pakistan, accusing it of using cross-border smuggling to compromise the health of J&K’s communities. He called upon law enforcement to take immediate and resolute action, asserting that “Every officer has one obligation: this must stop.”

Legal and Administrative Measures

To bolster the campaign, Sinha introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that includes severe repercussions for drug traffickers. These measures will entail:

• Revocation of IDs: Passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar cards, and arms licenses of drug traffickers will be annulled.
• Asset Freezing: The assets of those involved in drug trafficking will be seized and their bank accounts frozen.
• Active Pursuit: Lookout circulars will be implemented against known peddlers, ensuring swift punitive actions.

Phased Approach for Effective Implementation

The Lieutenant Governor outlined a structured plan for the three-month campaign, divided into six distinct phases:

1. Intensive Awareness Drives: Educating the community about the dangers of drug abuse.
2. Youth-Focused Events: Initiatives aimed at engaging young people in positive activities.
