Chasing Excellence in Cricket: A Closer Look at IPL Records

NEW DELHI: Batting in a chase is famously challenging in cricket, and those who perform exceptionally well under pressure earn respect as some of the sport’s finest. A prominent name in this context is ‘chasemaster’ Virat Kohli. The Indian superstar has single-handedly secured many matches while chasing, accumulating an impressive number of runs.

Virat Kohli: The Master of Chases

In the context of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kohli leads with the most runs in chases, having scored 4027 runs across 125 innings. This accounts for nearly 50% of his total IPL runs, which stands at 8758. However, when it comes to the best average during chases, Kohli ranks 10th among the 231 batters who have batted at least 10 times in this format, with an average of 41.51.

David Miller: The Elite Finisher

On the other hand, David Miller currently tops the list for the best average by a batter in chases, which has garnered attention following a recent match where his decision not to take a single caused Delhi Capitals to lose against Gujarat Titans. Despite this, Miller’s reputation remains solid; he boasts 1816 runs in 67 innings at an impressive average of 49.08, coupled with a strike rate of 142.54.

KL Rahul’s Consistent Performance

Another notable performer is KL Rahul, who recently scored 92 off 52 balls against Gujarat Titans. He ranks second on the list with an average of 47.92 from 66 innings, totaling 2,636 runs and a strike rate of 138.22, including 25 half-centuries.

Other Top Performers in IPL Chases

Phil Salt, Kohli’s teammate at RCB, stands third with an average of 46.92 from just 16 innings, scoring 657 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 178.04. Lendl Simmons follows in fourth place with an average of 46.22 from 11 innings. Finally, Sai Sudharsan rounds out the top five with a chases average of 45.40 from 22 innings, highlighting his contributions with one hundred and five fifties.
