NEW DELHI: Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara has taken a step back in his dispute with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after previously approaching the court over being denied permission to play in the IPL. Thushara filed a case after SLC refused to grant him a No Objection Certificate (NOC), which is essential for players wishing to participate in overseas leagues.
Reasons for the NOC Dispute
The conflict began when SLC rejected Thushara’s NOC request, reportedly due to failed fitness tests. In response, the 31-year-old cricketer sought legal intervention to allow him to participate in the upcoming IPL 2026, where he was expected to play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Legal Proceedings and Court’s Response
However, SLC contested his plea in court, stating that they would file objections against his request. The court subsequently accepted the board’s position, and a hearing has been scheduled for April 23.
Thushara’s Change of Heart
Amidst this escalating situation, Thushara has now expressed regret through an email to the board, conveying that it was never his intention to “cause inconvenience to the governing body.” He explained that his actions were motivated by a quest for fairness and justice, as he felt he had been treated unjustly.
Looking Ahead
Following this reflection, Thushara seems to be reconsidering his legal actions, potentially choosing to withdraw the case altogether. His apology marks a shift towards a more amicable relationship with the board. Thushara, who has participated in 30 T20 internationals since 2022 and appeared in previous IPL seasons, now faces uncertainty regarding his participation in IPL 2026. However, the recent developments indicate a movement toward resolution rather than further conflict.
