NEW DELHI: A fresh gunfight erupted on Thursday as security forces engaged terrorists in an ongoing search operation in the higher reaches of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. The clash is part of an operation named “Operation Trashi-I,” which began on Sunday.

Details of Operation Trashi-I

The operation was initiated in Sonnar village, located near Mandral-Singhpora in the Chatroo area. Initial encounters resulted in injuries to three soldiers after a search team came into contact with the terrorists around noon in the Sonnar area, northeast of Chatroo.

Encounter with Jaish-e-Mohammad Terrorists

According to officials, one of the search teams encountered a group of two to three foreign terrorists believed to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). During the engagement, the terrorists reportedly opened indiscriminate fire and hurled grenades in an attempt to breach the encirclement set by the security forces.

Discovery of a Major Terrorist Hideout

On Monday, a significant terrorist hideout was discovered near the site of the encounter. Several individuals have been apprehended for questioning as authorities continue to unravel connections related to this operation.

Situation Update: Heavy Firing Reported

The situation escalated on Thursday morning when fresh contact was made with the holed-up terrorists in the dense forests of Singhpora. Reports indicate that heavy firing was ongoing between the two sides, and security forces are actively working to neutralize the terrorists in the area.

Officials believe that a group of two to three terrorists associated with JeM remains trapped in the area. The operation continues as security forces aim to bring the situation under control.
