The MP suggested that the President or the Governor should possess the legal authority to act in such situations where a replacement is not promptly provided.

Opposition’s Stance on the Bill

Most opposition parties, including Congress, have chosen not to engage with the committee led by BJP’s Aparajita Sarangi, criticizing the bill as unconstitutional and politically motivated. The committee currently consists of only two opposition MPs: Supriya Sule from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Asaduddin Owaisi from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM).

During the discussions, a suggestion was made to invite opposition parties to present their views on the bill. However, this proposal sparked debate, as committee members noted that the opposition had consistently ignored invitations from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to participate in the panel.

Questions were raised regarding whether the leader of the opposition could also be removed from office under the provisions of this bill. Despite certain governmental protocols granted to leaders of opposition in Parliament and state assemblies, they are not classified as part of the executive, thereby falling outside the current bill’s purview.
