SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government, led by Omar Abdullah, has been accused of indifference towards the struggles of the local populace. This assertion was made by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief, Mehbooba Mufti, during a gathering held on the tenth death anniversary of her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the founder of the PDP.
Commitment to Her Father’s Vision
During her speech at her father’s mausoleum in Anantnag district’s Bijbehara, Mehbooba stated, “I am living for my father’s dream of seeing the people of J&K live with dignity.” She emphasized that the state government has largely ignored the public’s grievances, particularly regarding the planned 26-km railway line connecting Kakapora in Pulwama to Kunsoo in Shopian.
Impact of the Railway Project on Local Livelihoods
Mufti raised concerns that the railway project could threaten the livelihoods of locals, as the tracks are proposed to cut through some of the valley’s most productive apple orchards. “But the J&K government is indifferent to the issue,” she remarked.
Focus on Political Rivalry
Mehbooba criticized Omar Abdullah for prioritizing personal vendettas over addressing pressing issues faced by the people. “The people have given Omar a huge mandate, but he remains focused on targeting the PDP, instead of resolving the problems of the residents,” she alleged.
