NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently shared a detailed letter dedicated to “Nari Shakti,” emphasizing the government’s commitment to women’s reservation in legislative bodies. In a post on X, he highlighted that women across the country are supportive of this long-overdue reform and encouraged public backing ahead of a special Parliament session scheduled from April 16 to 18.
Celebrating Dr. Ambedkar’s Legacy
In his letter, PM Modi paid tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to nation-building and the establishment of constitutional values. He mentioned that Parliament would reconvene on April 16 to discuss a constitutional amendment related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and expressed optimism about its passage.
The Growing Role of Women in Society
The Prime Minister highlighted the increasing presence of women in various sectors, including startups, science, innovation, academia, arts, and sports, labeling it one of the most significant advancements in recent times. He pointed out how Indian women athletes are not only winning medals but also inspiring the younger generation.

PM Modi also acknowledged grassroots initiatives such as Self-Help Groups and “Lakhpati Didis,” which exemplify the rising trends of empowerment and self-reliance among women across the nation. Looking toward the centenary of India’s independence in 2047, the Prime Minister stated that women’s participation in decision-making is essential for achieving the vision of a developed nation. He underscored that this principle is the cornerstone of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and the ongoing push for a constitutional amendment.

The PM urged that timely action is critical and that any further delays would be “unfortunate” for the cause of women. He insisted that collective effort is necessary to implement women’s representation in legislative bodies at the earliest.
