NEW DELHI: Former President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has expressed her strong support for the women’s quota bill in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the initiative a ‘transformative step’ for India’s democracy.
The Significance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam
Patil, who served as India’s first woman President from 2007 to 2012, referred to the ‘landmark’ Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam constitutional amendment. She emphasized its potential to significantly enhance women’s representation in legislative bodies, thereby deepening democratic participation.

Patil noted that India has consistently witnessed the remarkable contributions of women across various domains, often overcoming considerable social and structural hurdles.
