Peshawar Zalmi Continues Winning Streak
A chaotic moment during a free-hit delivery in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) became a hot topic as Peshawar Zalmi secured an eight-wicket victory over Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday.
The Free Hit Incident
Abrar Ahmed was at the crease for the free hit after Ali Raza bowled a waist-high no-ball. A mix-up ensued when Abrar guided the ball towards backward point, initially looking for a run. Usman Tariq had already advanced down the pitch when he was sent back. The fielder attempted a run-out at the striker’s end but instead changed direction and threw towards the bowler’s end. Fortunately for Usman, the throw missed the stumps.
Zalmi’s Dominant Performance
Despite the momentary confusion, Peshawar Zalmi maintained control throughout the match. They restricted Quetta to a total of 154 runs, with impressive bowling performances from Sufiyan Muqeem and Iftikhar Ahmed.
Babar Azam’s Match-winning Innings
In their chase, Babar Azam delivered a stellar performance, scoring an unbeaten 71 runs off 51 balls. He formed key partnerships with Mohammad Haris and Kusal Mendis, enabling Zalmi to chase down the target effortlessly.
Closer to Playoffs
This victory marked Zalmi’s sixth win in seven matches and their fifth consecutive win, bringing them closer to playoff qualification and securing their position at the top of the table. Their only setback came in a rain-affected match against three-time champions Islamabad United in Lahore.
