The teaser of the much-anticipated Ramayana has ignited discussions, especially among fans of the classic Ramayan series. Dipika Chikhlia, famously known for her portrayal of Sita, recently shared her thoughts on the teaser, reflecting a notable change from her previous criticisms.
‘It’s Very Grand… Looks Very Beautiful’
In her response to the teaser featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Dipika expressed to India Today, “I watched the teaser and it’s very grand. Bahut rich lag raha hai. Unhone bahut achhe se banaya hai. (It looks very rich. They made it very well).” She added, “So now I’m awaiting the film and it’s looking very beautiful; there’s no doubt about it.”
A Shift from Her Earlier Criticism
Dipika’s enthusiastic reaction contrasts sharply with her earlier sentiments. Just a few months ago, she expressed strong reservations about the constant retellings of the Ramayana. In June 2024, she stated, “Honestly, I am quite disillusioned by people who keep making Ramayan because I don’t think you should be doing it.” She voiced her concerns about the creative liberties taken with each new adaptation, criticizing what she termed as people “making a mess of it.”
Teaser Offers a Glimpse into an Ambitious Retelling
The teaser introduces Ranbir Kapoor as Maryada Purushottam Rama, along with glimpses of Sai Pallavi portraying Sita and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The visuals imply a grand cinematic vision, focusing on the epic journey and adventures of Lord Rama. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and backed by Namit Malhotra, the Ramayana is envisioned as a two-part cinematic spectacle, featuring Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The score is composed by renowned artists Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. The first installment is set to release during Diwali 2026, with the second following in Diwali 2027.
