Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge have accomplished a remarkable milestone at the box office. Starring Ranveer Singh, this franchise has crossed the ₹3000 crore mark worldwide, marking it as the first Indian film series to achieve this feat.
Historic Box Office Milestone
According to Sacnilk, the combined global earnings of these two films now exceed ₹3019 crore, solidifying Dhurandhar as the highest-grossing franchise in Indian cinema to date.
Surpassing Iconic Blockbusters
With this milestone, Dhurandhar has surpassed some of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema history. The Baahubali series, directed by SS Rajamouli and featuring stars like Prabhas and Rana Daggubati, had previously set the benchmark with a total collection of ₹2438 crore. Similarly, Sukumar’s Pushpa franchise, led by Allu Arjun, amassed ₹2221 crore, while the KGF films, directed by Prashanth Neel and starring Yash, earned ₹1453 crore collectively.
Strong Individual Performances
Dhurandhar, which premiered in December last year, grossed over ₹1307 crore globally, despite being released only in Hindi and facing bans in Gulf countries and Pakistan. This film emerged as a massive blockbuster. Its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, released on March 19 across Hindi and multiple South Indian languages, benefitted from a clear box office run, avoiding competition from major releases like Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups and Peddi. The sequel has since grossed over ₹1712 crore globally, significantly boosting the franchise’s total.
A Rare Box Office Feat
The Dhurandhar franchise has become the only Indian film series where both installments have individually surpassed ₹1000 crore at the global box office. In India, the first film earned a net collection of ₹840 crore, while the sequel has already crossed ₹1083 crore and continues to thrive in theaters. Aside from Dhurandhar, only films like Pushpa 2: The Rule, KGF: Chapter 2, and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion have crossed the ₹1000 crore threshold domestically.
Ensemble Cast Enhances Appeal
In addition to Ranveer Singh, the films boast an impressive ensemble cast, including Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor, and Gaurav Gera. With Dhurandhar: The Revenge still running in theaters, the franchise’s total is poised for further growth, reinforcing its dominance at the Indian box office.
