    Transforming Healthcare at Carrum

At Carrum, we are revolutionizing healthcare payment, delivery, and experience. If you’re passionate about eliminating unexpected bills, improving quality, and reducing costs while thriving in an innovative, entrepreneurial environment, we want to connect with you.

Since our inception in 2014, Carrum has redefined the Centers of Excellence (COE) in digital health. Today, 95% of the US population lives within 50 miles of a Carrum COE, boasting providers within the top 10% nationally. Our commitment to execution has attracted over $96M from leading investors such as OMERS, Tiger Global Management, and Wildcat Ventures. Our impact has been validated in a 2021 RAND Corporation study and featured in a Harvard Business School (HBS) case study.

Join Us as a Staff Applied AI Product Engineer

As a Staff Applied AI Product Engineer, you will bridge cutting-edge AI capabilities with real-world healthcare needs. In this role, you will lead the integration of LLM-driven features into our core platform, evolving our stack from Ruby on Rails (SOA) and React to support AI-native workflows aimed at enhancing care navigation quality and efficiency.

    Collaboration and Implementation

You will collaborate closely with Data and Product teams, including a dedicated Applied AI PM, to identify LLM use cases, build robust RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines, and select appropriate foundation models. Your expertise will help craft the necessary architecture to convert raw model intelligence into reliable product features. Working alongside our DevOps team, you will leverage AWS/Azure for efficient cloud infrastructure deployment, ensuring optimal performance and resilience.

    Leading AI Engineering Strategy

As a senior technical leader, you will own the AI engineering strategy, transitioning us from “demos” to scalable, production-ready systems. You’ll establish best practices for building intelligent products, optimizations for latency and cost management, all while ensuring the upholding of strict data privacy and HIPAA compliance. You’ll advocate for Responsible AI, championing internal guidelines set by our AI Council to serve all patient demographics effectively.

    Your Role and Responsibilities

You will mentor the engineering team in AI-native development, collaborating with product managers to identify opportunities where AI can simplify the healthcare experience significantly. Additionally, you will partner with the VP of Engineering and Chief Product Officer to align delivery teams on initiatives, defining project timelines from inception to go-live.

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $190,000 – $260,000, contingent on experience and location.
