Your Role as a Product Engineer

As a Product Engineer specializing in Data Modeling on the Data Stack team, you will develop end-user tools to help them understand and manipulate their data models. Your responsibilities will include:

• Materializing user-defined queries and scheduling & resolving DAGs of query materialization.
• Debugging stateful data workflows using Kubernetes pod metrics.
• Scheduling jobs with Temporal.io.

The PostHog Data Stack is not only a core product for our users but also a foundational platform for our internal teams. Data is treated as a first-class product at PostHog, rather than an afterthought.

You will have the opportunity to push the limits of what our Data Stack team can achieve while ensuring stability and production readiness.

Qualifications: What You’ll Bring

• You’re a builder. You possess strong skills in constructing resilient systems, with experience in Kubernetes, Docker, and S3 at scale. Proficiency in Python and async-Python, along with Temporal.io skills, will be advantageous.
• You maintain good practices. You’re knowledgeable in logging, testing, and monitoring (observability) and comfortable with debugging stateful, asynchronous data workflows.
• You excel in UI development for data-intensive tools. Familiarity with React is essential.
• You have experience with DAGs and batch processing. Familiarity with Dbt is a plus.
• You possess a diverse skill set. It’s essential to have strong backend skills as we manage a complex system.
• You’re results-driven. Engineers at PostHog enjoy significant autonomy to choose their projects, necessitating a proactive attitude to accomplish tasks.
