Job Opportunity: Design Systems Designer

About the Position

Ethos is searching for our inaugural Design Systems Designer to establish and enhance our design system for customer and internal experiences. This role presents a unique opportunity to introduce structure to our design processes in a way that accelerates product development without compromising quality.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Foundations

• Establish a vision, principles, and roadmap for the design system, balancing long-term goals with immediate product demands.
• Audit existing systems and product UIs to identify opportunities for standardization and improved consistency.
• Develop a scalable token strategy and approach to theming across products.

System Design & Craft

• Create and maintain Figma libraries containing components, styles, and templates for product teams.
• Develop high-quality specifications that include interaction behaviors, states, and accessibility considerations.
• Ensure that the design system enhances narrative and conversion-driven experiences.

Engineering Partnership

• Collaborate with front-end engineers to translate the design system into reusable code components.
• Synchronize workflows to maintain alignment between design and code.
• Focus on pragmatic adoption and iterative shipping to make a visible impact.

Governance, Adoption & Enablement

• Build comprehensive documentation that includes guidelines and best practices.
• Train and empower teams on how to effectively use the design system.
• Establish a lightweight process for contributions from design and engineering teams.

Measurement & Iteration

• Define success metrics and monitor signals related to adoption, consistency, and accessibility improvements.
• Collaborate with research teams to correlate system updates with user outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills

• 7+ years of experience in relevant fields, with a proven track record in design system strategy and cross-team adoption.
• Strong foundation in product design, with a keen attention to detail in visual and interaction craft.
• Proficient in building and maintaining design systems using Figma.
• Familiarity with modern front-end concepts; able to collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
• Experience in accessibility standards and creating inclusive designs.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and build structure as Ethos continues to grow.
• Excellent communication skills for aligning diverse stakeholder groups.
• Portfolio showcasing end-to-end design system thinking and real-world impact.

Compensation and Benefits
