Our mission is to develop strategies that enhance engagement among our desktop gaming audience and emerging mobile gamers.

Join Us as a Product Design Manager

We’re in search of an experienced Product Design Manager to lead a team of designers focused on enhancing our strategic themes. Your responsibilities will include tackling challenges such as improving voice call discoverability and engagement, fostering dynamic conversations, and ensuring that Discord’s foundational experiences are world-class.

Your Responsibilities

As a Design Manager, you’ll:

• Develop a team of dedicated designers by promoting ownership and a sense of impact.
• Provide direction and oversee the output of product designers while encouraging collaborative partnerships and a streamlined design process.
• Form strong relationships with engineering and product management leaders to influence product strategy and achieve exceptional product execution.
• Collaborate with senior designers and cross-functional partners to define design roadmaps, ensuring that projects are well-structured and prioritized.
• Establish a robust pace for the team, cultivating a culture of quality while balancing holistic strategy with feature impact.
• Make informed decisions regarding resource allocation and team composition, adapting to evolving needs.
• Promote design excellence within your team while mentoring designers on user-centric thinking and risk mitigation.
• Get involved with design tasks occasionally to support your team while maintaining a focus on managerial responsibilities.

Qualifications We Seek

Ideal candidates will have:

• 2+ years of experience as a Design Manager or have previously led at least 2 Product Designers.
• 6+ years of experience in multi-platform digital products as a Product Designer or in a similar role, particularly with mobile product development.
• A portfolio showcasing design work you’ve created and directed, along with examples of how you’ve influenced your teams and projects.
• A passion for people leadership, including recruiting, training, and team organization.
• A strong eye for craftsmanship in design and a knack for identifying opportunities for improvement.
• A history of strong partnerships with engineering and product management.
• Comfort navigating ambiguous environments and crafting effective strategies to address challenges.
• A first principles approach to problem-solving and collaborating effectively with others.
• A willingness to engage in hands-on design work when needed, reinforcing that you remain a designer at heart.

Compensation Details

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $220,000 to $247,500, plus equity and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay within the range is influenced by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect base salary only and do not include equity or benefits.
