International Delegates Praise India’s Election Process

High Voter Turnout in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry

In recent elections held in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry, the impressive voter turnout has captured the attention of the global community. Notably, two of the three regions achieved record participation rates, highlighting the effectiveness of India’s electoral process. A total of 38 international delegates from 22 countries observed these elections firsthand and expressed their admiration for the high levels of voter engagement, meticulous planning, and seamless execution.

Delegation Under the International Election Visitors’ Programme

The visiting delegates were part of the Election Commission’s International Election Visitors’ Programme (IEVP) 2026. They described their experience as "a true festival of democracy." Branimir Farkas from Croatia remarked that the elections represented "a huge process done right."

Impressive Organization of Polling Stations

Paulus Shigwedha from Namibia expressed his admiration for the arrangements made at polling stations, noting that they were well organized and equipped with essential facilities like wheelchair access and childcare services. This attention to detail reflects India’s commitment to inclusive and accessible voting.

Technological Innovations in Election Monitoring

The delegates had the opportunity to visit district-level media monitoring centers, where they praised the continuous oversight of the elections facilitated through webcasting. Their involvement in plantation drives at polling stations further showcased India’s dedication to eco-friendly and sustainable election practices.

Learning Opportunities from India’s Electoral System

Abubakarr Mahmoud Koroma from Sierra Leone highlighted the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as a significant takeaway from their visit. He noted, "Some of the things that we have learned we will be able to take home and see how we could implement it."

Structured Logistics and Strong Security Measures

During their two-day visit on April 8-9, the delegates observed the systematic distribution of election materials at dispatch centers. They praised the well-planned logistics and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that ensured efficient movement of polling parties.

Interaction with Electoral Officials and Transparency Measures

The international guests also engaged with chief electoral officers and state police nodal officers, discussing the overall conduct of elections and security arrangements. They visited CCTV control rooms designed for monitoring webcasting at polling stations, which they described as a "strong pillar of transparency."
