    Responsibilities of a Senior Backend Engineer

    As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and operate the platform systems that enable Arbiter’s connections to the broader ecosystem. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Platform Architecture & Backend Systems: Develop reliable backend services for Arbiter’s core platform.
    • External System Connectivity: Maintain robust connections to third-party systems, ensuring flexible integration across various clients.
    • API Design & Data Exchange: Create and manage high-scale APIs with complex data flows.
    • Performance & Reliability: Ensure fault tolerance and high performance through strong system design and monitoring.
    • Data Engineering & Pipeline Ownership: Maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and ensure data quality across diverse formats.
    • Infrastructure & Deployment Excellence: Uphold best practices for continuous integration and delivery.
    • Cross-Functional Execution: Collaborate closely with various teams to solve high-impact problems.
    • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Guide junior engineers and contribute to documentation and standards.
    • Ownership & On-Call: Take responsibility for critical systems and lead incident resolution.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 5+ years of experience with production backend systems in high-availability environments.
    • Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
    • Proficiency in building large-scale Python codebases.
    • Deep understanding of API design and versioning.
    • Experience with third-party service integrations.
    • Strong grasp of concurrency, scalability, and distributed systems.
    • Hands-on experience with data pipeline architectures.
    • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Proficiency in AI-assisted development tools.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, EDI).
    • Familiarity with database performance tuning.
    • Background in startup or early-stage environments.

    Pay Transparency

    The annual base salary for this position ranges from $148,500 to $190,000. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and other factors.
