Key Responsibilities

1. Build and Ship Customer-Facing Products: Deliver polished features across both frontend and backend. Ensure changes are reliable, accessible, and performant.
2. Own Work End-to-End: Take ownership from discovery and technical design through implementation, testing, release, and iteration.
3. Leverage AI: Stay current with AI-enabled coding approaches. Apply creativity in utilizing AI throughout your work.
4. Raise Engineering Quality: Improve code patterns, reduce technical debt, strengthen testing, and contribute to a healthy codebase through thoughtful reviews and refactoring.
5. Collaborate in a Remote Team: Work effectively asynchronously, write clear updates, and partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to achieve desired outcomes.
6. Support the Team: Mentor junior engineers through pairing, code reviews, and sharing best practices.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional development experience
• Strong experience in building production web applications (preferably React and TypeScript)
• Solid fundamentals in modern frontend engineering (state management, performance, testing)
• Experience with APIs (preferably GraphQL) and relational databases (preferably Postgres)
• Experience in defining and operating production infrastructure
• Familiarity with AI coding tools and techniques
• Capability to own projects end-to-end and ship iteratively
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a remote environment
• Strong code quality standards, focusing on security, testing, and maintainability

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Node.js backend development
• Familiarity with testing frameworks like Cypress, Vitest, and CI
• Experience in Shape Up or similar delivery methodologies
• Experience with Ruby on Rails (legacy stack)
• Knowledge of security standards and compliance

Runn is developed using a modern tech stack: React, Node, TypeScript, Fastify, Hasura, GraphQL, Postgres, and is tested with Cypress and Vitest. Our deployment is managed via GitHub Actions and hosted on Heroku. We extensively utilize cutting-edge AI for coding and related processes.

Our methodology follows Shape Up, customized for our team. Projects are structured in eight-week cycles, allowing for phases of intensive project work followed by cooldown periods for technical debt reduction and skill enhancement.

The engineering team operates mainly within NZ timezones, providing flexibility for communication, whether fully asynchronous or scheduled discussions.
