Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s Greetings
NEW DELHI: On Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended heartfelt greetings to the scientists, personnel, and families associated with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on the occasion of DRDO Day. He commended their unwavering commitment and scientific excellence, emphasizing their crucial role in strengthening India’s defence capabilities.
Reinforcing Strategic Autonomy
In a post on X, Singh highlighted the importance of developing indigenous technologies, stating that it reinforces India’s "strategic autonomy." He noted that these advancements are vital in bolstering the nation’s defence preparedness while also furthering the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence.
"On DRDO Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all @DRDO_India scientists, personnel, and their families. Their unwavering commitment, scientific excellence, and sense of national duty are vital to strengthening India’s defence preparedness," said Singh.
A Legacy of Growth and Innovation
As the DRDO approaches its 67th Foundation Day on January 1, 2026, it is essential to recognize its evolution since its formation in 1958. Originally created from the amalgamation of the Indian Army’s Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) and the Directorate of Technical Development & Production (DTDP), the DRDO started as a small organization with just ten laboratories. Over the decades, it has expanded significantly in discipline, laboratory count, achievements, and stature.
Chief of Army Staff’s Acknowledgment
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi also expressed warm wishes to DRDO personnel and their families. He affirmed the integral role of DRDO in national security, stating:
"General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, and All Ranks of the Indian Army extend warm wishes and greetings to all DRDO personnel and their families on the occasion of DRDO Day."
Recent Achievements of DRDO
In 2025, DRDO celebrated notable milestones, including the successful launch of two ‘Pralay’ missiles in quick succession off the coast of Odisha. Conducted as part of user evaluation trials, the flight test confirmed that both missiles performed as intended, meeting all flight objectives.

The ‘Pralay’ missile is an indigenously developed solid propellant quasi-ballistic missile equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems that ensure high precision. It is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads to engage various targets effectively.
