A bitter legal confrontation is unfolding within the Kapur family following the death of businessman Sunjay Kapur. His mother, Rani Kapur, and daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev, are entangled in a dispute concerning the RK Family Trust. Recently, Rani spoke out about the ongoing issues, making accusations against Priya and vowing to pursue the case until the very end.
Rani’s Determination to Fight
In a heartfelt interview with NDTV, Rani Kapur expressed her anger over her removal from the trust, stating, “I think it’s very wrong of her. She entered my family seven years ago… If my husband was alive, he wouldn’t have allowed this.” She adamantly reiterated that the RK Family Trust, established by her husband, should remain unchanged, expressing, “I’m not going to allow it. I will fight till I die.”
Allegations of Coercion After Sunjay’s Death
Rani Kapur made grave allegations against Priya, claiming that she was forced to sign legal documents shortly after her son’s passing. “Three days after my son’s funeral, we had just come from London. She took me to the office. I was in no condition to sign or read anything. She made me sign papers,” Rani recounted. She further stated that any documents signed under such duress should be considered invalid, declaring, “Whatever I’ve signed is null and void.”
Access Denied to Her Own Home
Continuing her complaints, Rani mentioned that she has been unable to access her home in Delhi, which she and her husband built together. “Now she thinks she owns the house also—for what, I don’t know,” she said, denying any claims that there were attempts to contact her. “Never—I’m telling you right now, never.”
Maintaining Family Ties Despite the Conflict
Despite the rift, Rani shared that she maintains a relationship with her former daughter-in-law, Karisma Kapoor. “Karisma is very much in touch with me. They come and have lunch… we go out. I meet them regularly,” she stated, while expressing emotional pain over being separated from her grandchildren. “I miss that little one… I just can’t enter that house again.”
The Future of the Dispute
When asked how she wishes to resolve the matter, Rani remained cautious. “Once I get what’s mine, I’ll decide… you know how the courts in India are—it’s a long legal fight. I don’t want to say anything right now.” The legal battle over the RK Family Trust is ongoing, with both sides challenging each other’s claims, turning this family conflict into a high-stakes struggle over a Rs 30,000 crore estate.
