On Sunday, Tamil Nadu’s Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin officially kicked off his election campaign in the Mannargudi Assembly constituency, located in the Thiruvarur district. His campaign supports DMK candidate TRB Rajaa as the party ramps up its efforts ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

A Response to Critics

During his address, Udhayanidhi Stalin responded to criticisms regarding his origins, stating, “Some say I am not originally from the Delta region. But today I say I am an original Delta person. The truth is, they are not original Delhi people.” This remark sought to reinforce his local identity and establish a connection with the electorate.

Framing the Election as a Political Battle

Stalin framed the upcoming elections as a crucial political battle between rival factions. He specifically criticized the AIADMK, asserting, “This election is between the Delhi team and the Tamil Nadu team. Our leader is the captain, and we will win. The AIADMK-led NDA alliance is a slave team.” He emphasized that the NEET examination was implemented during the AIADMK regime under the leadership of Edappadi Palaniswami, branding him as ineffective for Tamil Nadu’s welfare.

Chief Minister M K Stalin’s Ongoing Campaign

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M K Stalin was also active, campaigning in the Paramakudi area of the Kolathur constituency. During a morning walk, he connected with the public, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party was attempting to infiltrate Tamil Nadu by collaborating with the AIADMK. He noted, “The truth is that the BJP is entering Tamil Nadu wearing the mask of the AIADMK.”

Engaging with the Local Community

Stalin took time to visit a roadside tea stall and engage with members of the weaving community, which represents a significant population in the region. His grassroots approach aims to solidify connections with local voters.

Reiterating Key Welfare Promises

During previous campaign events in Manachanallur on Saturday, Udhayanidhi Stalin reaffirmed welfare promises, including financial assistance for women, expansion of the Kalaignar Housing Scheme, and educational support for students. These initiatives reflect the DMK’s commitment to addressing the needs of the electorate.

Election Schedule

The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are set to take place in a single phase on April 23, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4. As both leaders intensify their campaigns, the electoral stakes continue to rise in this politically significant state.
