Ramaswamy’s decision came in response to an encouraging message from the Ohio Republican Party, which praised him as a candidate. In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece, Ramaswamy explained that he removed X and Instagram from his phone on New Year’s Eve, intending to focus on listening to voters directly. “I’ll spend my newfound time listening to more voters in real-world Ohio, developing more policies to make our state affordable, and being more present with my family,” he noted.

While Ramaswamy’s campaign team will continue using social media for messaging, he will not personally engage with online content. He described social media as “a tempting alternative” to costly polls but cautioned that such platforms can distort public perception. “The messages you’re most likely to see are the most negative and bombastic,” he remarked, emphasizing that online commentary is often skewed by bots and foreign influences.

Ramaswamy believes that social media pressure can lead politicians to react disproportionately rather than concentrate on real-world issues such as economic stability, lower utility costs, and improved education. Citing a past experience at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, he observed that while online feedback predicted boos, he actually received a standing ovation from over 20,000 attendees.
The Competition: Casey Putsch and the 2026 Ohio Primary
Casey Putsch has entered the 2026 Ohio gubernatorial Republican primary as an “America First” alternative to Ramaswamy, who enjoys the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. Putsch has criticized Ramaswamy on various issues, including H‑1B visa policy, immigration, and alleged elitism, even accusing him of improperly accepting a $50,000 college scholarship. Despite the criticism, Ramaswamy continues to be a front-runner in the race, supported by significant funding and establishment backing.
