A Tribute to Civilizational Resilience

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Somnath Swabhiman Parv on Thursday, sharing nostalgic photos from his 2001 visit to the Somnath Temple. This year-long celebration serves as a tribute to the enduring resilience of India’s civilization.

Key Highlights from PM Modi’s Announcement

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the Somnath Swabhiman Parv is dedicated to remembering "the countless children of Bharat Mata," who persevered with integrity in challenging times. He reflected on the historical significance of the Somnath temple, stating:

“A thousand years ago, in January 1026, Somnath faced its first-ever attack. The attack of 1026 and the subsequent attacks couldn’t diminish the eternal faith of millions, nor break the civilizational spirit that rebuilt Somnath time and again.”

Remembering the Past

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of acknowledging those who stood firm in their principles, regardless of adversity. He stated:

“#SomnathSwabhimanParv is about remembering the countless children of Bharat Mata, who never compromised with their principles and ethos. However daunting the times were, their resolve remained unshaken and their commitment to our ethos unwavering.”

Reflecting on Milestones

PM Modi also shared moments from the program celebrated on October 31, 2001, which marked the 50th anniversary of the Somnath Temple’s inauguration, originally reconstructed in 1951. He noted:

“I am also sharing with you some glimpses of a program organized in Somnath on October 31, 2001…The efforts of great personalities including Sardar Patel and K. M. Munshi in the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple were extremely commendable.”

The event attracted significant attendance from prominent leaders, including then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Home Minister L.K. Advani.

Looking Ahead: Future Commemorations

As the Somnath Swabhiman Parv continues, PM Modi outlined plans for future commemorations, highlighting:

“In the year 2026, we are also commemorating the 75th anniversary of the grand ceremony that took place in 1951!”

The Somnath temple, located in Veraval, Gujarat, was reconstructed through the contributions of key Indian leaders and now stands as a symbol of cultural pride.

PM Modi is set to visit the Somnath Temple on January 11 for the climax of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebrations. This event runs from January 8 to January 11, featuring a variety of programs that will spotlight India’s spiritual heritage, cultural pride, and social values.
